The youths were treated to brisk winds out of the North East and cooler than normal conditions. We picked a blind that would be perfect for the wind, got the decoys out and settled into the blind just before shooting time. When the time arrived, ducks were all over us. The kids blasted away, but their shooting skills were a little rusty. We ended up short of the limit, but plenty of shooting opportunities kept the kids entertained. We ended up with Bluewing Teal, Gadwall and Shovelers. Nice bag and big smiles on the kids faces and that is what it is really all about! The season opens for all on 11/12 and it should be fantastic. My ponds look great with plenty of submergent and floating vegetation as duck food. There were thousands of ducks all around us including Bluewing Teal, Greenwing Teal, Gadwall, Mottled, Pintail and Shovelers. They were decoying like a dream and were coming in to land with feet down in groups of 5-12. The season is looking great! Good luck out there this week!
