Slow Fishing this Weekend

Slow fishing out of the Delacroix marsh this weekend. The remnants of the full moon are still working on the feeding patterns of the fish. The redfish have been cooperative, but the trout have been scarce. We have been catching one to three trout per spot. The trout have been nice size, up to 18″ with few throwbacks. The redfish are sacattered, but not hard to limit with multiple fishing spots. The reds have been going up to 26″ with few throwbacks. All fish have taken live or dead shrimp fished 2-5′ under corks. The water conditions are very fishable, but rather low toward the low tidal ranges. This tends to make the water dingy, but still fishable. There is plenty of bait both inside and outside of the marsh. The trout just do not seem to be interested in feeding after the moon sets in the morning. This week should find the moon effect waning. We need cold fronts to finish the inside migration. Looking forward to a banner fall and winter season! Good luck out there this week.

What a Difference a Day Makes!

What a difference a day makes! The trout really fed today in the Delacroix marsh. My guests were treated to ESE winds up to 20K and stained water conditions. The fish did not seem to mind. We targeted deep passes between lakes with the incoming tide. The water depth was 22 feet and the bottom was heavyly oyster lined. The trout wanted live cocahoe minnows on 1/4 ounce jigheads slow rolled on the bottom. We also picked a good number of fish on the artificial cocahoe in smoke w/red tail. The live outfished the plastic today hands down. The trout were very subtle in the pick up and were not running with the bait at all. A light twitch, a slight pressure difference or limp line tension were the only clues to your lure getting mauled.  The trout were 12-18″ with few throwbacks. One lone bull red ventured down the trough and was picked up a live cocahoe – 29″. The fish bit better in the afternoon session than the morning. The fish are still feeding with the full moon and are most active early and late. Wednesday calls for rain, but the rest of the week looks good. Good luck out there this week.

Another Windy Day in Paradise

Another windy day in paradise. My guests were treated to a stiff ENE breeze gusting to 25 K this morning in the Delacroix marsh. The water had been low in the morning, but poured in during the day. That was the biggest .4 foot tidal range I have ever seen! The water was clean in the morning and became increasingly cloudy throughout the day. We found some small trout feeding in the winter time holes this morning. It was two throwbacks for every fish that hit the box, but steady action. The fish wanted live cocahoe minnows on the bottom on jigheads and artificial cocahoes in smoke w/red tail. The artificial out produced the live today. A few small reds and a couple of flounder rounded out the day. The action is spotty right now and with the full moon, the action is best early and late. Look for your fish to still be in the deep holes early and moving up toward the flats in the  afternoon. Good luck out there this week.
