Delacroix Fishing Report – 5/27/2024

Windy and hot today in the Delacroix marsh. Could not effectively fish the areas I have been working for trout due to the westerly winds, so we tried some different spots. The trout were slow and small today, so we shifted gears and headed to the shorelines for redfish. We got on the reds in the 18-25″ class. These fish wanted live shrimp carolina rigged. We kept on them until my guests wilted under the heat the oppressive heat and were sunburned. Decided to call it a day early. Will be back at it again this week. Good luck out there!

Delacroix Fishing Report – 5/21/2024

A little breezy this morning as we headed East into the Delacroix marsh. My game plan was to hit spots that are good for incoming tide trout bite. It was a little rougher than I anticipated crossing the lake, so I diverted to a protected bayou with a little less wave energy. We got on fish right away, but the wrong species – catfish, were mauling our offerings of live shrimp carolina rigged. The hunt was on as we took off to find some better action. We hit a couple of other spots to find trout, but they were too small. We headed to a point in a large lake and set up where we could fish the shoreline for reds and work the tidal current on the point for trout. The trout spot yielded more small trout, but the reds were ganged up on the shore line. We caught a pile of nice reds in the 18-25″ class on the live shrimp. Still thinking trout, we hit a large lake and set up on a submerged reef. The trout started right away, but had to wade through small ones to get some to hit the ice chest. The larger trout wanted artificial cocahoes on 3/8 ounce jigheads. We picked away at the trout until the Black Drum crashed the party and worked my guest around the boat before we were able to land the fish. We kept at it until we ran out of live shrimp and decided to take it to the house. The trout were tough today, but the reds and drum made sure that my guests went home with plenty of fish. Delcroix Fishing Report – 5/16/2024

Beautiful sunrise over the Delacroix marsh this morning. Light winds greeted us as we arrived at our first fishing spot. We set up on the edge of the ledge of a deep bayou. Unfortunately, the tide was not moving at all and the fishing action suffered. We tried live shrimp on carolina rigs in the deeper water and along the ledge. We got into 3 different species of catfish, stingrays, small speckled trout and 1 nice red in the 15lb class. We decided to move further out to try and find some moving water. We hit a large lake that has a submerged reef. We set up on the edge of the reef as the tide started rising. We started catching some nice trout in the 13-18″ class. We had to wade through some small trout to get ones that would meet the new regulatory limit. We ran low on live shrimp so I switched the group over to plastic cocahoes on 3/8 ounce jigheads. The action picked up significantly as the group figured out how to catch them on soft plastics. We had a good number of fish and we decided to call it early and headed back to the dock. Great time in Delacroix! Bad weather predicted for the next few days, but will be back at it early next week. Good luck out there!

Delacroix Fishing Report – 5/1/2024

One stop shopping this morning in the Delacroix marsh. We headed out this morning into a light breeze to chase speckled trout and redfish. My first spot was occupied by a very early rising fisherman so off to Plan B. We it a deep bayou that drains into a shallow lagoon. The tide was falling at a pretty good clip so we tackled up with heavier weights and found the fish glued to the bottom in the strong current. The first cast yielded a 18″ redfish on live shrimp carolina rigged. The next casts with the live shrimp brought in catfish. We switched to soft plastic cocahoes on 3/8 ounce jigheads and started picking up speckled trout in the 14-18″ class. The actions increased as the tidal current slowed. We kept picking away until the bull reds moved in. After catching a couple of bulls in the 25 lb class, the trout scattered. The wind picked up and the boat position moved slightly and we had to change our bait presentation. It took a little while to figure out the new twitch, but were able to get the fish back on the feed. We finished up the trout limits and were back at the dock before noon. The good fishing the the Delacroix marsh continues. We will be back after them. Good luck out there!
